Kitchener beats Cambridge 3-2 after comeback scare

The Cambridge Winter Hawks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Kitchener Dutchmen would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Mitchell Smith put Kitchener up 3-1 in the third period, but Cambridge pulled to within one on Maxime Lamontagne's tally 11:33 into the third period.

The Dutchmen were led by Smith, who finished with one goal. Smith scored on the power play 8:04 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Kitchener. Kitchener had gained a power play chance when Lamontagne was whistled for tripping. Nathan Grossi picked up the assist.

The Dutchmen's offense rang up 36 shots on the Winter Hawks' net.

Kitchener additionally got points from Adam Kawalec, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kitchener also got a goal from Kyle Ellis as well. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Jordan Delaurier, Connor Cole, and Jeremy Kuehn, who contributed one each.

Team could not crack Kitchener's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Kyle Liu also scored for Cambridge. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Devin Shell, who had two and Alex Bottigoni and Phil Caputo, who each chipped in one.

The Dutchmen's Jackson McIntosh stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Kitchener incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Owen Savory made 33 saves for Cambridge on 36 shots. The Winter Hawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
