McKelvie's hat trick boosts Stratford over Elmira, 7-2Allman Arena Fri, Sep 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Patrick McKelvie lifted the Stratford Cullitons to a 7-2 victory with a hat trick against the Elmira Sugar Kings. McKelvie's first goal came 17:10 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:11 into the second and at 16:04 into the third.Stratford's penalty kill excelled, as the Cullitons gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Stratford's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cullitons finished with 38 penalty minutes. Stratford also got points from Jake Pleon, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Stratford also got a goal from Shane O Brien as well. In addition, Stratford received assists from Josh Miller, Jared Nash, Zach Van Louwe, Jeff McArdle, and Nicholas Caldwell, who each chipped in one and Deven Kropf and Trevor Sauder, who contributed three each. Elmira kept Stratford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Caldwell made 31 saves on 33 shots. The Sugar Kings found themselves short handed often, totaling 48 penalty minutes and allowing 12 power plays. The Cullitons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Pleon was ejected from the game. Elmira's Jonathan Reinhart stopped 21 shots out of the 28 that he faced. For the Sugar Kings, Klayton Hoelscher was ejected from the game.
