Sarnia survives Strathroy comeback, wins 5-3

The Strathroy Rockets almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Sarnia Legionnaires managed to pull out a 5-3 win in the end.

Sarnia led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Legionnaires' Ryan Trottier scored on the power play at 13:54 in the second period to put Sarnia up 4-1.

Jay Clarke had two goals to lead the Legionnaires to victory. Clarke scored at 2:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sarnia and again while on the power play 11:33 into the second to make the score 3-1 Sarnia.

Sarnia's penalty kill excelled, as the Legionnaires gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Sarnia forced Strathroy goalie Tynan Lauziere to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Others who scored for Sarnia included Cody Trowell and Jordan Fogarty, who each put in one. More assists for Sarnia came via Riley Babkirk, Riley Roberts, Tyler Prong, and Kyler Keating, who each chipped in one and Nathan Mater and Davis Boyer, who contributed two each.

The Rockets kept the Legionnaires' goalie busy throughout the game, and Hunter Johnson made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Strathroy was helped by Mark MacAulay, who registered one goal and one assist. MacAulay scored 14:42 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Sarnia. Stuart King assisted on the tally. Strathroy also got points from King, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Brett Dalton also scored for Strathroy. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Matt Laberge, Andrew Martin, and Dan Chapman, who each chipped in one.

Sarnia incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Legionnaires ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and PJ Vandervaart was ejected from the game. Lauziere recorded 40 saves for the Rockets. Strathroy incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Rockets, Eddie Schulz was ejected from the game.
