Adelaide Adrenaline beats Sydney Sirens 4-3 as Kavanagh gets hat trick

Bethanie Kavanagh netted a hat trick to lead Adelaide Adrenaline over Sydney Sirens, 4-3.

Kavanagh's first goal came 9:22 into the second period. He then added goals at 15:57 into the second and at 12:44 into the third.

Adelaide Adrenaline pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 12 penalty minutes.

With 42 shots on target during the contest, Adelaide Adrenaline exceeded the 2.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Adelaide Adrenaline additionally got points from Natasha Farrier, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Adelaide Adrenaline received assists from Kelly Harris, Kirsty Venus, Sari Lehmann, and Diana Glass, who each chipped in one.

Sydney Sirens put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Adelaide Adrenaline to score on any of its six power plays. By firing 34 shots on goal, Sydney Sirens exceeded the 3.1 shots it averages per game this year. Sydney Sirens' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Sydney Sirens finished with 14 penalty minutes.

Sydney Sirens was helped by Amelia Matheson, who tallied two goals. Matheson scored the first of her two goals at 39 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matheson's next tally made the score 2-1 Sydney Sirens with 14:52 left in the second period. Brittany McCabe picked up the assist. Sydney Sirens also got points from McCabe, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Sydney Sirens were Kaylee White and Stephanie Cochrane, who contributed one each.

Adelaide Adrenaline's Claudia Tom stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that she faced. Sera Dogramaci made 38 saves for Sydney Sirens on 42 shots. Sydney Sirens registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
