Melbourne Ice blows out CBR Brave, 6-1

Melbourne Ice had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over CBR Brave.

Tommy Powell had two goals and two assists to lead Melbourne Ice. Powell scored the first of his two goals at 6:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Melbourne Ice. Sean Hamilton provided the assist. Powell's next tally made the score 6-1 Melbourne Ice with 1:36 left in the third period. Melbourne Ice had gained a power play chance when Harry Byers was whistled for roughing. Jeremy Brown picked up the assist.

CBR Brave's seven penalties came back to haunt it, as CBR Brave let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Melbourne Ice put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow CBR Brave to score on any of its five power plays. Melbourne Ice surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Melbourne Ice averages 3.8 goals per game. With 40 shots on target during the contest, Melbourne Ice exceeded the 3.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Melbourne Ice also got points from Tim Johansson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Melbourne Ice included Todd Graham, Jeff Smith, and Matthew Armstrong, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Melbourne Ice were Lliam Webster and Mitch Humphries, who each chipped in one.
