Sevcenko's hat trick boosts Idaho Junior Steelheads over Southern Oregon Spartans, 5-4

Arturs Sevcenko lifted Idaho Junior Steelheads to a 5-4 victory with a hat trick against Southern Oregon Spartans.

Sevcenko's first goal came 2:23 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:29 into the first and at 2:55 into the third.

Idaho Junior Steelheads put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Southern Oregon Spartans to score on any of its four power plays. Southern Oregon Spartans was unable to stop Idaho Junior Steelheads from sending pucks towards the net, and Idaho Junior Steelheads eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Idaho Junior Steelheads' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Idaho Junior Steelheads averages 1.6 goal allowed per game.

Idaho Junior Steelheads also had goals scored by Hunter Cyr and Connor Hoernlein, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Idaho Junior Steelheads were Dimitris Jones, who had three and Parker Lewis, Yegor Ivanov, Ryan Cutter, Macky Power, Hunter Lester, and Kyle TenEyck, who contributed one each.

Southern Oregon Spartans was helped by Mackenzie Wood, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Wood scored the first of his two goals at 18:22 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Idaho Junior Steelheads. Anton Bokull assisted on the tally. Wood's next tally made the score 5-4 Idaho Junior Steelheads with 10:58 left in the third period. A hooking call on Brody Surette put Southern Oregon Spartans on the penalty kill. Southern Oregon Spartans additionally got points from Bokull, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Southern Oregon Spartans also got a goal from Doug Gutierrez as well. In addition, Southern Oregon Spartans received assists from Drew Carriere, who had one and Nick Pagliacci, who had two.

Austin Althaus made 22 saves for Idaho Junior Steelheads on 26 shots. Idaho Junior Steelheads incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Reed Kinsey recorded 37 saves for Southern Oregon Spartans. Southern Oregon Spartans incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
