San Diego wins tough contest against Fresno Monsters, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, San Diego escaped with a 3-2 victory over Fresno Monsters.

San Diego gained the winning advantage on a goal by Filip Masek 14:20 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

San Diego was paced by Masek, who registered one goal.

San Diego put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fresno Monsters to score on any of its five power plays.

Others who scored for San Diego included Pavel Bocharov and Toni Haikarainen, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for San Diego were Jokaim Jutras, Ted Lauer, Will Parker, Cameron Todd, Wesley Varrasso, and Sebastian Gruhler, who each chipped in one.

Fresno Monsters' offense operated below its season average. Fresno Monsters averages 6.2 goals per game. Fresno Monsters forced San Diego goalie Jutras to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Fresno Monsters was helped by Evan Ingram, who finished with one goal. Ingram scored short handed 9:58 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Fresno Monsters was on a disadvantage when Mark Shroyer went off the ice for interference. Mike Nolan assisted on the tally. Fresno Monsters additionally got points from Nolan, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Fresno Monsters received assists from Kyle Jelinski and Conner Osborne, who contributed one each.

Jokaim Jutras made 38 saves for San Diego on 40 shots. San Diego incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Austin Piquette recorded 23 saves for Fresno Monsters. Fresno Monsters incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
