Miami University uses early goal to top Grand Valley State University, 2-0Griff's Georgetown Sat, Jan 24, 2015 The Miami University RedHawks beat the Grand Valley State University Lakers, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. A goal 16 seconds into the first period by Jordan Hanson proved to be the game winner, and powered Miami University to the victory. Cassidy Guthrie provided the assist.The RedHawks were sparked by Hanson, who finished with one goal. Miami University stifled Grand Valley State University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The RedHawks did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Miami University puts an average of 6.0 pucks into the net per game. The Lakers were unable to stop the RedHawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Miami University eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. Miami University also got a goal from Kaley Mooney as well. More assists for Miami University came via Nicole Matthews and Alyssa Visalli, who each chipped in one. The RedHawks' Emalee Wills stopped 17 shots out of the 17 that he faced. Miami University incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Lauren Allen made 48 saves for Grand Valley State University on 50 shots. The Lakers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
