Lake Tahoe Blue's comeback falls short, Whitefish Wolverines wins 5-3

Whitefish Wolverines, which led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Lake Tahoe Blue and clinched a 5-3 victory.

Whitefish Wolverines led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Whitefish Wolverines' Stosh Mroz scored at 4:40 in the second period to put Whitefish Wolverines up 3-0.

Whitefish Wolverines was paced by Tyler Latimer, who registered one goal. Latimer scored 17:58 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Whitefish Wolverines. Riley Ingalls assisted on the tally.

Whitefish Wolverines put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Lake Tahoe Blue to score on any of its three power plays. Whitefish Wolverines forced Lake Tahoe Blue goalie Nick Bretzger to work between the pipes, taking 54 shots. Whitefish Wolverines bested its season scoring average. This season, Whitefish Wolverines averages 2.7 goals per contest.

Whitefish Wolverines additionally got points from Brett Fernandez, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Ingalls, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Aleksei Garin, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Whitefish Wolverines received assists from Kristian Evans and Danny Roe, who each chipped in one and Chris Cutshall and Evan Carter, who contributed two each.

Lake Tahoe Blue stifled Whitefish Wolverines' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Lake Tahoe Blue's offense rang up 34 shots on Whitefish Wolverines' net.

Lake Tahoe Blue was helped by Nicholas Lang, who tallied one goal. Lang scored 5:45 into the third period to make the score 3-3. David Raus picked up the assist. Lake Tahoe Blue also got points from Julius Bauermeister, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brandon Aab also scored for Lake Tahoe Blue. More assists for Lake Tahoe Blue came via Luke Erickson, who had two and Cestmir Dolezel III and Hunter Lovdokken, who each chipped in one.

Whitefish Wolverines' Brendan Duff stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Whitefish Wolverines incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Bretzger recorded 49 saves for Lake Tahoe Blue. Lake Tahoe Blue incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
