Valencia Flyers outlasts Fresno Monsters, 5-3

The game between Valencia Flyers and Fresno Monsters was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Valencia Flyers emerged with a 5-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Blake Aguilar secured the win for Valencia Flyers with a goal in the second period.

Jakob Kranabetter had one goal and two assists to lead Valencia Flyers. Kranabetter scored 18:13 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Valencia Flyers.

Valencia Flyers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Valencia Flyers finished with 38 penalty minutes.

Valencia Flyers also got points from Niklas Giers, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Aguilar, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Valencia Flyers included Greg Figg and Kory Medeiros, who scored one goal each. In addition, Valencia Flyers received assists from Ray Wilson, who had two and Nicholas Wilton and Brian Martinez, who contributed one each.

Fresno Monsters' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Valencia Flyers power plays. Fresno Monsters was held below its usual level of production. Fresno Monsters averages 6.3 goals per game. Fresno Monsters kept Valencia Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ole Nilsen made 32 saves on 35 shots. Fresno Monsters' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Fresno Monsters gives up 2.1 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Fresno Monsters could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Fresno Monsters was helped by Jonathan Bengtsson, who racked up one goal. Bengtsson scored on the power play 11:05 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fresno Monsters. Fresno Monsters had gotten the advantage when Valencia Flyers' Kranabetter was sent off for hooking. Evan Ingram provided the assist. Fresno Monsters additionally got points from Mike Nolan, who also registered one goal and one assist. Michael Freeman also scored for Fresno Monsters. More assists for Fresno Monsters came via Brantt Heble and Corey Munro, who each chipped in one.

Valencia Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Wilton was ejected from the game. Nathan Churchill recorded 17 saves for Fresno Monsters. Fresno Monsters registered two goals on nine power play opportunities. For Fresno Monsters, Kyle Jelinski was ejected from the game.
