Wichita Jr. Thunder beats Tulsa Jr. Oilers 4-3 after comeback scare

Tulsa Jr. Oilers tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but Wichita Jr. Thunder held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Zach Balodis put Wichita Jr. Thunder up 4-1 in the third period, but Tulsa Jr. Oilers pulled to within one on Sam Mancini's tally 18:05 into the third period.

Wichita Jr. Thunder got the win behind a great game by Peter Cicmanec, who had one goal and two assists. Cicmanec scored on the power play 2:28 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Wichita Jr. Thunder. Wichita Jr. Thunder had gotten the advantage when Tulsa Jr. Oilers' Mancini was sent off for tripping. Jack McClelland assisted on the tally.

Wichita Jr. Thunder forced Tulsa Jr. Oilers goalie Teke Murphy to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Wichita Jr. Thunder's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Wichita Jr. Thunder additionally got points from Balodis, who also finished with one goal and one assist and McClelland, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Chance Aquino also scored for Wichita Jr. Thunder. More assists for Wichita Jr. Thunder came via Joel Gellvear, who had two.

Tulsa Jr. Oilers also got a goal from Ivan Bukshevannyy as well. In addition, Tulsa Jr. Oilers received assists from Hunter Best, Sam Hiserodt, and Andrew Wyrrick, who contributed one each.

Matej Varchola recorded 18 saves for Wichita Jr. Thunder. Wichita Jr. Thunder totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Teke Murphy made 37 saves for Tulsa Jr. Oilers on 41 shots. Tulsa Jr. Oilers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
