Valencia Flyers outlasts Fresno Monsters, 4-3

Valencia Flyers and Fresno Monsters were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Valencia Flyers made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Adam Papayoanou's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Papayoanou had two goals to lead Valencia Flyers to victory.

Valencia Flyers' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and four majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Valencia Flyers had been spending in the box.

Valencia Flyers also had goals scored by Nicholas Wilton and Blake Aguilar, who each put in one. In addition, Valencia Flyers received assists from Niklas Giers, Tyler Lazarek, Jakob Kranabetter, Jared Waldman, Chase Thesman, and Evan Johnson, who contributed one each.

Fresno Monsters was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and three majors for 55 minutes in penalty time. Fresno Monsters had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. Fresno Monsters was held below its usual level of production. Fresno Monsters puts an average of 6.4 pucks into the net per game. Valencia Flyers was unable to stop Fresno Monsters from sending pucks towards the net, and Fresno Monsters eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Austin Piquette rejected 18 shots on goal for Fresno Monsters. Fresno Monsters registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Fresno Monsters, Mark Shroyer was ejected from the game.
