Fresno Monsters beats Valencia Flyers 5-0 as Churchill gains shutout

Fresno Monsters used a sparkling performance by Nathan Churchill to take down Valencia Flyers, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Fresno Monsters' 5-0 shutout victory.

Fresno Monsters' penalty kill excelled, as Fresno Monsters gave up zero goals despite allowing 11 power plays.

Fresno Monsters racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Fresno Monsters had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Fresno Monsters stifled Valencia Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Fresno Monsters' offense rang up 39 shots on Valencia Flyers' net.

Fresno Monsters was helped by Mike Nolan, who racked up one goal and one assist. Nolan scored 11:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fresno Monsters. Mark Shroyer picked up the assist. Fresno Monsters also got points from Gianmarco Guidon, who also had two goals and one assist and Austin Browning, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Michael Freeman also scored for Fresno Monsters. In addition, Fresno Monsters received assists from Conner Hyden, who had three.

Valencia Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Fresno Monsters power plays. Valencia Flyers did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Valencia Flyers averages 4.5 goals per game. Valencia Flyers was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 23 penalty minutes.

Churchill rejected 26 shots on goal for Fresno Monsters. Valencia Flyers' Silvan Delb stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced.
