Katie Danto gave the Grand Valley State University Lakers the lead in the first period, and the Davenport University Panthers was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Grand Valley State University took over the lead for good with a goal by Danto at 18:27 in the first period. Hilary Daniels picked up the assist.

Grand Valley State University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Davenport University to score on any of its five power plays. The Lakers kept the Panthers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Caitlin Nosanov made 37 saves on 39 shots.

Davenport University excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Panthers could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Grand Valley State University's defense shut down the Panthers' forwards for much of the game, and Davenport University got off only 13 shots during the contest.
