Butte Cobras falls to Whitefish Wolverines after surprising comeback

Whitefish Wolverines rallied from three goals down to secure a 5-3 win over Butte Cobras.

Whitefish Wolverines never led in the game until netting the game winner. Whitefish Wolverines trailed 3-0 after a short handed goal by Butte Cobras' Bogdan Shleev at 10:45 in the second period. Whitefish Wolverines tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Stosh Mroz at 2:38 in the third period. Whitefish Wolverines scored the game winner at 7:25 in the third period on a goal by Mroz.

Whitefish Wolverines got the win with help from a great game by Evan Carter, who had one goal and two assists.

Whitefish Wolverines forced Butte Cobras goalie Tage Rustgi to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Whitefish Wolverines' goal total was higher than its season average. Whitefish Wolverines averages 2.6 goals per game. Whitefish Wolverines' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Whitefish Wolverines additionally got points from Mroz, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Brett Fernandez, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Danny Roe also scored for Whitefish Wolverines. In addition, Whitefish Wolverines received assists from Bryan Polmear, Riley Ingalls, Aleksei Garin, and Chase Ball, who contributed one each.

Butte Cobras kept Whitefish Wolverines' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brendan Duff made 28 saves on 31 shots.

Butte Cobras was helped by James Kilgore, who registered one goal. Kilgore scored 15:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Butte Cobras. Jacob Rudloff provided the assist. More assists for Butte Cobras came via Zach Steuck, who had two and Anton Zimmer and Derick Brehm, who each chipped in one.

Whitefish Wolverines incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Tage Rustgi made 32 saves for Butte Cobras on 37 shots. Butte Cobras incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Butte Cobras ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Rudloff was ejected from the game.
