San Diego falls to Valencia Flyers after surprising comeback

Valencia Flyers climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat San Diego, 4-3.

Valencia Flyers never led in the game until netting the game winner. Valencia Flyers trailed 2-0 after a goal by San Diego's Ilya Sakhibgareev at 5:32 in the second period. Valencia Flyers knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Ray Wilson at 16:15 in the third period. Valencia Flyers scored the game winner at 17:36 in the third period on a goal by Wilson.

Wilson had two goals and one assist to lead Valencia Flyers. Wilson scored the first of his two goals at 1:06 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Wilson's next tally made the score 3-3 with 3:45 left in the third period. Valencia Flyers had gotten the advantage when San Diego's Alec Barre was sent off for interference. Evan Johnson provided the assist.

Valencia Flyers forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. Valencia Flyers had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Valencia Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Valencia Flyers' offense rang up 41 shots on San Diego's net.

Valencia Flyers also got points from Johnson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Valencia Flyers also got a goal from Dawson Keay as well. In addition, Valencia Flyers received assists from Eddie Cordero, who had one and Chase Thesman, who had two.

Valencia Flyers was unable to stop San Diego from sending pucks towards the net, and San Diego eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. San Diego could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

San Diego was helped by Artemiy Yaroslavskiy, who had one goal. Yaroslavskiy scored 13:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 San Diego. Nurbek Baltayev picked up the assist. San Diego additionally got points from Joel Gellvear, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for San Diego were Cameron Todd, Sebastian Gruhler, Nikita Velmakin, and Felix Morin, who each chipped in one.

Daniel Palacios recorded 30 saves for Valencia Flyers. Valencia Flyers registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Jokaim Jutras made 37 saves for San Diego on 41 shots.
