Huge game by Key boosts Cheyenne Stampede over Colorado RoughRiders, 6-3

Cody Key had one goal and two assists to lead Cheyenne Stampede to a 6-3 victory over Colorado RoughRiders.

Key scored 1:57 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cheyenne Stampede. Cory Hurtubise picked up the assist. Key dished an assist on Nolan Kinney's goal that made the score 1-1 at 7:23 into the first period. He added another helper on Kinney's goal that made the score 6-3 Cheyenne Stampede at 17:22 into the third period.

Colorado RoughRiders was unable to stop Cheyenne Stampede from sending pucks towards the net, and Cheyenne Stampede eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Cheyenne Stampede found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Cheyenne Stampede averages 3.3 goals per game.

Cheyenne Stampede also got points from Kinney, who also had two goals and one assist. Cheyenne Stampede also had goals scored by Sebastian Crystal, Craig Thurston, and Chaydyn Johnson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cheyenne Stampede were Branko Oktavec, who had two and Heath Lantz, Garrett Hughes, Jacob Rudloff, Jeremy Szczurek, Michael Ballard, and Alec Sara, who each chipped in one.

Colorado RoughRiders forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 13.0 minutes per game Colorado RoughRiders had been spending in the box.

Colorado RoughRiders was helped by Tanner West, who grabbed one goal. West scored on the power play 6:10 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A checking from behind penalty on Scott Taylor had put Colorado RoughRiders on the power play. Gian Cervo provided the assist. Others who scored for Colorado RoughRiders included Walker Harris and Aidan Doughty, who each put in one. In addition, Colorado RoughRiders received assists from Nick Kukuris, Hunter Behrens, Martin Bakula, Thayne Trumbull, and Casey Riccatone, who contributed one each.

Egor Riabchikov recorded 23 saves for Cheyenne Stampede. Cheyenne Stampede totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Kirill Pustovalov made 35 saves for Colorado RoughRiders on 41 shots. Colorado RoughRiders registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Colorado RoughRiders, Riccatone was ejected from the game.
