Cheyenne Stampede wins tough contest against Colorado Eagles, 5-4Cheyenne Ice and Events Fri, Nov 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Cheyenne Stampede escaped with a 5-4 victory over Colorado Eagles. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Craig Thurston at 17:55 of the third period. Nolan Kinney was all over the ice for Cheyenne Stampede, as he finished with two goals in the win. Kinney scored on the power play at 9:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cheyenne Stampede and again while 3:54 into the third to make the score 4-3 Cheyenne Stampede. Cheyenne Stampede put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Colorado Eagles to score on any of its four power plays. Cheyenne Stampede kept Colorado Eagles' goalie busy throughout the game, and Quinn Wold made 45 saves on 50 shots. Cheyenne Stampede also got points from Heath Lantz, who also had one goal and one assist and Drake DeBerry, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Cheyenne Stampede came via Sebastian Crystal, Alex Groner, and Jeremy Szczurek, who each chipped in one and Branko Oktavec and Cody Key, who contributed two each. Colorado Eagles was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Colorado Eagles had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game. Colorado Eagles forced Cheyenne Stampede goalie Egor Riabchikov to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Colorado Eagles' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to Cheyenne Stampede's power play unit. Colorado Eagles was helped by Trenton Hines, who registered one goal. Hines scored 1:37 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Colorado Eagles. MacGregor Haddon provided the assist. Colorado Eagles additionally got points from Cade Warner, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Colorado Eagles also had goals scored by Tanner Ulland and Nick Davidson, who scored one goal each.
