Levene nets hat trick, leads Oklahoma City Blazers to 9-4 win over Tulsa Jr. Oilers

Matt Levene lifted Oklahoma City Blazers to a 9-4 victory with a hat trick against Tulsa Jr. Oilers.

Levene's first goal came 6:30 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:50 into the first and at 16:34 into the second.

Tulsa Jr. Oilers' power play was ineffective against Oklahoma City Blazers' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Oklahoma City Blazers forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 55 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game Oklahoma City Blazers had been spending in the box. Oklahoma City Blazers forced Tulsa Jr. Oilers' goalies to work without much rest, taking 49 shots and forcing 40 saves. Michal Marcinek made 31 stops and Colter Pritchard made nine. Oklahoma City Blazers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances.

Oklahoma City Blazers additionally got points from Kirill Romanov, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Oklahoma City Blazers included Petr Kobes, who had two and Drake Johnson, Matthew Audette, and Dominik Vlk, who each put in one. In addition, Oklahoma City Blazers received assists from Pavel Oxiouta, who had four, Lubos Vacek, who had five, and Mike Evans, Dylan Lamontagne, Kole Hudson, and Austin Kirby, who each chipped in one.

Tulsa Jr. Oilers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Oklahoma City Blazers to score on any of its three power plays. Oklahoma City Blazers was unable to stop Tulsa Jr. Oilers from sending pucks towards the net, and Tulsa Jr. Oilers eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Tulsa Jr. Oilers was helped by Maksim Chegrintcev, who had two goals. Chegrintcev scored the first of his two goals at 7:30 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Sam Mancini picked up the assist. Chegrintcev's next tally made the score 3-2 Oklahoma City Blazers with 22 seconds left in the first period. Tulsa Jr. Oilers also got points from Mancini, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Tulsa Jr. Oilers also got a goal from Hunter Best as well. More assists for Tulsa Jr. Oilers came via Andrew Wyrrick, Ted Forster, and Sam Hiserodt, who contributed one each.

Kirby recorded 28 saves for Oklahoma City Blazers. For Oklahoma City Blazers, Vlk was ejected from the game. Tulsa Jr. Oilers incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Tulsa Jr. Oilers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Wyrrick was ejected from the game.
