San Diego Gulls survives Phoenix Knights comeback, wins 8-6

San Diego Gulls, which led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Phoenix Knights and clinched an 8-6 victory.

San Diego Gulls led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when San Diego Gulls' Joel Gellvear scored at 10:11 in the second period to put San Diego Gulls up 5-2.

San Diego Gulls got the win on the strength of a great game by Nurbek Baltayev, who had two goals and one assist. Baltayev scored the first of his two goals short handed at 12:38 into the first period to make the score 3-1 San Diego Gulls. San Diego Gulls found itself down a man on Michael Wiggins's tripping. Pavel Bocharov picked up the assist. Baltayev's next tally short handed made the score 7-6 San Diego Gulls with 10:06 left in the third period. San Diego Gulls had gotten the advantage when Phoenix Knights' Braden Cooper was sent off for slashing. Gellvear assisted on the tally.

San Diego Gulls' penalty kill unit could not stop Phoenix Knights' power play, which converted on three of five opportunities.

Phoenix Knights forced San Diego Gulls' netminders to work in net, ripping 38 shots and forcing 32 saves. Jackson made eight stops and Brody Cavataio made 24. Phoenix Knights outdid its season average for goals scored. Phoenix Knights averages 3.9 goals per game.

Phoenix Knights was led by Jordan Cullum, who registered one goal and two assists. Cullum scored 8:28 into the third period to make the score 6-6. Phoenix Knights additionally got points from Brennan Kosloski, who also had one goal and one assist, Brynton Macnab, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Robert Crisci, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Phoenix Knights also had goals scored by Brennan Johnsson and William Wallin, who each put in one. More assists for Phoenix Knights came via Jordan Kaspick, who had one.

San Diego Gulls totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Rett Rook recorded 29 saves for Phoenix Knights. Phoenix Knights ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
