San Diego Gulls uses big second period to beat Phoenix Knights, 12-3

San Diego Gulls scored six goals in the second period to pull away from Phoenix Knights and clinch a 12-3 win.

San Diego Gulls got the win thanks to a great game by Ilya Sakhibgareev, who had two goals and two assists. Sakhibgareev scored the first of his two goals at 3:15 into the second period to make the score 4-1 San Diego Gulls. Pavel Bocharov assisted on the tally. Sakhibgareev's next tally made the score 10-3 San Diego Gulls with 3:14 left in the third period. San Diego Gulls had gained a power play chance when Jordan Cullum was whistled for high sticking. Bocharov provided the assist.

San Diego Gulls was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. San Diego Gulls surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. San Diego Gulls forced Phoenix Knights' netminders to work without much rest, finishing with 51 shots and forcing 39 saves. Luke Stripp made 19 stops and Braven Macpherson made 20. Phoenix Knights had taken the advantage when San Diego Gulls' Bavis got sent off for elbowing. Cullum picked up the assist. Phoenix Knights also got points from Brennan Johnsson, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Brynton Macnab also scored for Phoenix Knights. In addition, Phoenix Knights received assists from Mitch Cobby, who had one.

Ilya Alyakin made 28 saves for San Diego Gulls on 31 shots. San Diego Gulls registered two goals on four power play opportunities. San Diego Gulls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alec Barre was ejected from the game. Phoenix Knights incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
