San Diego Gulls falls apart in second, loses to Fresno Monsters, 8-3

Fresno Monsters used a four-goal second period to put away San Diego Gulls, 8-3.

Fresno Monsters got the win thanks to a great game by Evan Ingram, who had two goals and one assist. Ingram scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fresno Monsters. Fresno Monsters had taken the advantage when San Diego Gulls' Nurbek Baltayev got sent off for interference. Mike Nolan picked up the assist. Ingram's next tally on the power play made the score 6-2 Fresno Monsters with 2:52 left in the second period. Nolan assisted on the tally.

San Diego Gulls was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Fresno Monsters was able to score four times while on the power play.

Fresno Monsters forced San Diego Gulls' goalies to work without much rest, firing 47 shots and forcing 39 saves. Hunter Jackson made 26 stops and Brody Cavataio made 13. Fresno Monsters was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time.

Fresno Monsters additionally got points from Jacob Haynes, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Brantt Heble, who also had one goal and two assists, and Austin Browning, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Fresno Monsters also had goals scored by Dan Fitzgerald, Parker Olson, and Patrick Meier, who scored one goal each. In addition, Fresno Monsters received assists from Carter Dahl, Corey Munro, and Jonathan Bengtsson, who each chipped in one and Mark Shroyer and Kyle Baker, who contributed two each.

San Diego Gulls racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game San Diego Gulls had been spending in the box.

San Diego Gulls was helped by Kastle Birch, who registered one goal. Birch scored 9:57 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Nikita Velmakin picked up the assist. San Diego Gulls also got points from Ilya Sakhibgareev, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. San Diego Gulls also got a goal from Artemiy Yaroslavskiy as well. Other players who recorded assists for San Diego Gulls were Brandon Bavis, who had two and Felix Morin and Pavel Bocharov, who each chipped in one.

Nathan Churchill rejected 24 shots on goal for Fresno Monsters. San Diego Gulls registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
