Van Vliet stymies Butte Cobras, Southern Oregon Spartans wins 4-1

Tyler Van Vliet had a standout game with 26 saves, and Southern Oregon Spartans beat Butte Cobras 4-1.

Southern Oregon Spartans was paced by Marcus Miller, who finished with one goal and one assist. Miller scored 19:23 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Southern Oregon Spartans. Doug Gutierrez provided the assist.

Southern Oregon Spartans kept Butte Cobras' goalie busy throughout the game, and Reed Kinsey made 59 saves on 63 shots.

Southern Oregon Spartans also got points from Gutierrez, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Mackenzie Wood also scored for Southern Oregon Spartans. Other players who recorded assists for Southern Oregon Spartans were Jonathon Lovelace, who had three and Liam Finn, Billy Saxton, and Luke Fraser, who contributed one each.

Butte Cobras' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Southern Oregon Spartans power plays.

Butte Cobras was led by Zach Steuck, who scored the team's only goal. Steuck scored on the power play 6:40 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Southern Oregon Spartans. Butte Cobras had taken the advantage when Southern Oregon Spartans' Billy Good got sent off for roughing. Anton Zimmer picked up the assist.

Southern Oregon Spartans ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Butte Cobras totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
