Long Beach Bombers uses shootout to best Fresno Monsters, 2-1 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Long Beach Bombers defeated Fresno Monsters in a shootout 2-1 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Fresno Monsters' shootout goals were scored by Mike Nolan and Brantt Heble. In addition to the clincher, Long Beach Bombers got shootout goals from Patrik Johansson and Carl Lyden.

Long Beach Bombers' Dennis Tschudi was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 70 saves and let only one puck past him. Tschudi managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.16 prior to the game.

Fresno Monsters' power play was ineffective against Long Beach Bombers' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:02 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Long Beach Bombers stifled Fresno Monsters' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Long Beach Bombers forced Fresno Monsters goalie Austin Piquette to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Long Beach Bombers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Long Beach Bombers finished with 46 penalty minutes.

Long Beach Bombers was led by Johansson, who racked up one goal. Johansson scored 9:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Long Beach Bombers. Tomas Nemeth provided the assist. More assists for Long Beach Bombers came via Michael Sjolin, who had one.

Fresno Monsters' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. Fresno Monsters surpassed its season average of 36.0 penalty minutes per game. Fresno Monsters excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 10 chances. Fresno Monsters could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Fresno Monsters averages 6.0 goals per game. Long Beach Bombers was unable to stop Fresno Monsters from sending pucks towards the net, and Fresno Monsters eventually piled up 71 shots on goal.

Fresno Monsters was led by Carter Dahl, who scored the team's only goal. Dahl scored 19:51 into the third period to make the score 1-1.

For Long Beach Bombers, Erik Sandgren was ejected from the game. Austin Piquette made 31 saves for Fresno Monsters on 32 shots. Fresno Monsters ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mark Shroyer was ejected from the game.
