Southern Oregon Spartans hangs on, beats Butte Cobras 2-0

Southern Oregon Spartans beat Butte Cobras, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Southern Oregon Spartans took over the lead for good with a goal by Billy Saxton at 9:36 in the first period.

Tymen Edelkoort III frustrated Butte Cobras' offense all game, and stopped 27 shots en route to a shutout. Edelkoort III certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.21 entering the contest.

Butte Cobras' power play was ineffective against Southern Oregon Spartans' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Southern Oregon Spartans forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. Southern Oregon Spartans had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Southern Oregon Spartans excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Southern Oregon Spartans' offense rang up 43 shots on Butte Cobras' net.
