Randazzo's big game bests Peoria in 8-3 Mississippi RiverKings win

Andrew Randazzo had two goals and one assist to lead Mississippi RiverKings to an 8-3 victory over the Peoria Rivermen.

Randazzo scored at 13:29 into the second period to make the score 3-3 and again while on the power play 18:51 into the second to make the score 5-3 Mississippi RiverKings.

Mississippi RiverKings found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Mississippi RiverKings averages 3.0 goals per game. Mississippi RiverKings' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Mississippi RiverKings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 42 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.8 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Devin Mantha, who also had one goal and one assist, Matt Harrington, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Sean Jones, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Dan Delisle as well. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Mike Hayward, who had three, Ryan Marcuz and Daniel Sobotka, who contributed one each, and Linden Bahm and Matt Whitehead, who each chipped in two.

Peoria forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Rivermen had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Mississippi RiverKings was unable to stop Peoria from sending pucks towards the net, and the Rivermen eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Peoria was helped by Alec Hagaman, who finished with one goal. Hagaman scored 5:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria. Ben Oskroba assisted on the tally. Peoria also got points from Oskroba, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jake Trask also scored for Peoria. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Steve Morra, Nick Schneider, and Jason Cohen, who contributed one each.

Mississippi RiverKings' Peter Di Salvo stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Mississippi RiverKings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kyle Rank took the loss and made 28 saves before being replaced by Dustin Carlson who made six saves. The Rivermen registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Peoria ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cole Ruwe was ejected from the game.
