Columbus' comeback falls short, Huntsville wins 6-4

The Huntsville Havoc, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Columbus Cottonmouths and clinched a 6-4 victory.

Huntsville led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Havoc's Jordan Reed scored at 3:58 in the third period to put Huntsville up 5-2.

Reed had two goals to lead the Havoc to victory.

In a losing effort, Columbus was paced by Shawn Bates, who racked up two goals and one assist. Bates scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:42 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Huntsville. The Cottonmouths had gained a power play chance when Jacob Johnstone was whistled for slashing. Neilsson Arcibal picked up the assist. Bates' next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Huntsville with 5:49 left in the third period. Mike Switzer provided the assist.

Huntsville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 29 shots on goal during the game, better than the 15.7 shots per game it averages. The Havoc's goal total was higher than their season average. Huntsville averages 2.3 goals per game.

Huntsville also got points from Dave Williams, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Johnstone, who also had one goal and one assist. Huntsville also had goals scored by Ray Ortiz and Aaron McGill, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Justin Cseter, Zack Dailey, Jarred Mohr, and Justin Tateson, who contributed one each and Stuart Stefan and Nick Wheeler, who each chipped in two.

Columbus put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.8 it averages per game.

Others who scored for Columbus included Kyle Thomas and Nick Curry, who each put in one. In addition, Columbus received assists from Shannon Szabados, who had one and Louis Belisle, who had two.

Jesse Kallechy recorded 28 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Cottonmouths' Szabados stopped 23 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Columbus incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
