Peoria survives Mississippi RiverKings comeback, wins 3-2Landers Center Fri, Mar 20, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Mississippi RiverKings tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but the Peoria Rivermen held on for a 3-2 victory. A goal by Garrett Vermeersch put Peoria up 3-0 in the second period, but Mississippi RiverKings pulled to within one on Paul Ciarelli's tally 9:33 into the third period. With 31 shots on target during the contest, the Rivermen exceeded the 27.2 shots they average per game this year. Peoria was led by Matt Summers, who finished with one goal and one assist. Summers scored on the power play 11:58 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Peoria. The Rivermen had gotten the advantage when Mississippi RiverKings' Devin Mantha was sent off for boarding. Jake Trask assisted on the tally. Peoria also got a goal from Dan Bremner as well. In addition, Peoria received assists from Ryan Raven, who had one. Mississippi RiverKings kept Peoria's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kyle Rank made 30 saves on 32 shots. Mississippi RiverKings was helped by Leo Thomas, who registered one goal. Thomas scored on the power play 2:38 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Peoria. Mississippi RiverKings had taken the advantage when the Rivermen's Ben Oskroba got sent off for tripping. Linden Bahm picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Ryan Marcuz, Justin Gvora, and Matt Whitehead, who each chipped in one. Peoria incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Adam Courchaine made 28 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 31 shots. Mississippi RiverKings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
