Peoria blows out Huntsville, 6-2

The Peoria Rivermen were firing on all cylinders against the Huntsville Havoc, and when the final buzzer sounded Rivermen emerged with a 6-2 win.

Peoria got the win with help from a great game by Jason Cohen, who had one goal and two assists. Cohen scored on the power play 7:38 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Peoria. The Rivermen had gotten the advantage when Huntsville's Robert Davis was sent off for cross checking. Steve Morra assisted on the tally.

Peoria's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Huntsville power plays. The Rivermen failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 17 pucks on goal after averaging 29.1 shots per game this season. Peoria outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Rivermen average 3.4 goals per contest.

Peoria additionally got points from Garrett Vermeersch, who also had one goal and two assists, Matt Summers, who also tallied two goals and one assist, and Alex Hudson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Peoria also got a goal from Josh Harris as well. In addition, Peoria received assists from Ryan Raven, who had two and Dan Bremner and Michael Gunn, who contributed one each.

The Havoc struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Peoria to score three power play goals on five chances. Huntsville put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.0 it averages per game.

The Havoc were led by Drew Akins, who dished out two assists.

Kyle Rank recorded 30 saves for the Rivermen. Peoria incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jesse Kallechy took the loss and made seven saves before being replaced by Kevin Genoe who made four saves. Huntsville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
