Pensacola beats Huntsville 3-2 after comeback scare

The Huntsville Havoc tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Pensacola Ice Flyers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Nick McParland put Pensacola up 3-0 in the second period, but Huntsville pulled to within one on Luke Greiner's tally 6:49 into the third period.

McParland had two goals to lead the Ice Flyers to victory.

Pensacola was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Flyers had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Pensacola exceeded the 26.2 shots it averages per game this year.

Adam Pawlick also scored for Pensacola. More assists for Pensacola came via Cody Ferriero, who had two and Michael Budd, Brett Beebe, and Corey Banfield, who each chipped in one.

The Havoc excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Huntsville put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 18.9 it averages per game.

The Havoc were helped by Drew Akins, who grabbed one goal. Akins scored on the power play 1:15 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Pensacola. Huntsville had taken the advantage when the Ice Flyers' Ferriero got sent off for tripping. Stuart Stefan provided the assist. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Curtis Megginson and Joe Tolles, who contributed one each.

Max Strang made 25 saves for Pensacola on 27 shots. Kevin Genoe recorded 29 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play.
