CBR Brave hangs on, beats Melbourne Mustangs 4-2

CBR Brave took the lead against Melbourne Mustangs in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

CBR Brave took over the lead for good with a goal by Matthew Harvey at 8:24 in the first period. Stephen Blunden provided the assist.

CBR Brave was led by Anton Kokkonen, who had one goal and one assist. Kokkonen scored 7:16 into the second period to make the score 3-1 CBR Brave. James Byers assisted on the tally.

CBR Brave put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Melbourne Mustangs to score on any of its four power plays. With 40 shots on target during the contest, CBR Brave exceeded the 2.9 shots it averages per game this year.

CBR Brave also had goals scored by Matt Lehoczky and Cory Wilkie, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for CBR Brave were Jordan Gavin and Peter Taylor, who contributed one each.

Melbourne Mustangs stifled CBR Brave's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Melbourne Mustangs' offense was clicking better than usual and put 21 shots on goal during the game, better than the 3.1 shots per game it averages.

Melbourne Mustangs was helped by Sean Jones, who had one goal. Jones scored 7:45 into the second period to make the score 3-2 CBR Brave. Jamie Bourke provided the assist. Joseph Hughes also scored for Melbourne Mustangs. More assists for Melbourne Mustangs came via Jeffrey Grant and Jack Wolgemuth, who each chipped in one.

Petri Pitkanen made 19 saves for CBR Brave on 21 shots. CBR Brave incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Melbourne Mustangs' Mike James stopped 36 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Melbourne Mustangs incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
