Napanee wins tough contest against Campbellford, 5-3

The Napanee Raiders and the Campbellford Rebels were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Napanee made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Austin Boulard secured the win for the Raiders with a goal in the third period.

Boulard had two goals to lead Napanee to victory.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:46 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Raiders were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Napanee had been spending in the box.

Napanee also got points from Keenan Murray, who also registered one goal and one assist, Zack Revell, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Josh Murphy, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Napanee received assists from Evan Brown, who had two and Matthew Muller, Brandon Nadeau, Zach Knapp-Hermer, and Mitch Pearce, who contributed one each.

Campbellford forced the Raiders goalie Tomo Mikuljan to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Rebels were led by Jon Samis, who racked up two goals and one assist. Samis scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Campbellford. Campbellford earned a power play opportunity when Muller was put in the box for high sticking. Jeremiah Doherty picked up the assist. Samis' next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Campbellford with 3:20 left in the second period. Doherty provided the assist. Campbellford additionally got points from Doherty, who also had one goal and two assists. Campbellford also got a goal from Colin Doyle as well. More assists for Campbellford came via William Lameroux, Travis Bennett, and Etinene Pelleteir, who each chipped in one.

Mikuljan rejected 28 shots on goal for Napanee. The Raiders registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Napanee, Nicolas Schuler was ejected from the game. Cole Mahoney made 24 saves for the Rebels on 28 shots. Campbellford totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. The Rebels ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Koel Newton was ejected from the game.
