Amherstview wins tough contest against Campbellford, 5-3WJ Henderson Rec. Centre Sun, Dec 14, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Amherstview Jets and the Campbellford Rebels were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Amherstview made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Cody Smith at 13:21 of the third period. Jordan Howe had two goals to lead the Jets to victory. Howe found the back of the net 7:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Amherstview and again while 18:48 into the third to make the score 5-3 Amherstview. Amherstview's offense rang up 44 shots on Campbellford's net. Others who scored for Amherstview included Joey Mayer and Cam Blakeley, who scored one goal each. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Jesse Stone, Brett Yake, Brody Taylor, Cassidy Bruni, Ben Bianco, and Cosimo Morin, who contributed one each. The Rebels' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Amherstview power plays. Campbellford was helped by Grant Fry, who finished with one goal. Fry scored on the power play 10:31 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Amherstview. The Rebels had gotten the advantage when the Jets' Max Brunner was sent off for roughing after whistle. William Lameroux picked up the assist. Campbellford also got points from Josh Leavey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Ethan McDougall also scored for Campbellford. Amherstview's Ryan Kaszuba stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Jets incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Cole Mahoney rejected 39 shots on goal for Campbellford. The Rebels incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
