Port Hope rips Deseronto, 11-1Deseronto & District CC Fri, Dec 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Port Hope Panthers had an eight-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 11-1 win over the Deseronto Storm. Mike Smith was all over the ice for Port Hope, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Smith scored the first of his two goals at 19:13 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Port Hope. Kallen McFarland picked up the assist. Smith's next tally made the score 6-1 Port Hope with 12:03 left in the second period. Tyler Davey assisted on the tally. Deseronto's 13 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Storm let up five goals while on the penalty kill. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the second period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with nine game misconducts. The Panthers forced Deseronto goalie Aaron Young to work between the pipes, taking 69 shots. Port Hope found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Panthers average 6.0 goals per game. Port Hope additionally got points from Liam Rowe, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Nathan Snoek, who also registered two goals and two assists. Port Hope also had goals scored by Dan Lagrois, who had three and Hunter Baker, Matthew Hunt, and Shawn Mackie, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Port Hope were Chandler Gillespie, who had two, Braeden Kublick, who had three, and Jacob Spicer, Rory Milne, Chays Ruddy, and Ryan Thistlethwaite, who each chipped in one. The Storm racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and four majors for 58 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 34.0 minutes per game Deseronto had been spending in the box. The Storm found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 14 shots against Port Hope's defense. Deseronto was led by Mitchell Thompson, who scored the team's only goal. Thompson scored 7:55 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Port Hope. Brett Maracle picked up the assist. Alec Brown took the win and made four saves before being replaced by Branson Schell who made nine saves. The Panthers ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. For Port Hope, Thistlethwaite, Kublick, and Mackie were ejected from the contest. Young rejected 58 shots on goal for the Storm. Deseronto registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Alex Crouter, Tyson OToole, Devin MacLean, Johnny Maracle, and Thompson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
