Picton rides Tufts to victory over Amherstview, 3-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Brock Tufts helped the Picton Pirates defeat the Amherstview Jets, 3-1.

Picton was led by Phil Smith, who had one goal and one assist. Smith scored 18:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Picton. Mitch Burke picked up the assist.

The Pirates stifled Amherstview's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jets were unable to stop Picton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Pirates eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Picton included Austin Labelle and Chris Jones, who scored one goal each. In addition, Picton received assists from Miles Levtov, Devin McCann, and Taylor Brown, who each chipped in one.

Amherstview's offense operated below its season average. The Jets average 4.0 goals per game. Penalties took their toll on Amherstview, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.

The Jets were led by Cam Blakeley, who scored the team's only goal. Blakeley scored 11:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Amherstview. Dorian Overland provided the assist.

Brock Tufts made 26 saves for Picton on 27 shots. The Pirates incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Ryan Kaszuba recorded 30 saves for Amherstview. The Jets incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
