Spicer's big game bests Amherstview in 6-3 Port Hope win

The Port Hope Panthers' Jacob Spicer had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 6-3 win over the Amherstview Jets.

Spicer beat Ryan Kaszuba with a shot 17:05 into the second period on the power play to make the score 4-3 Port Hope. Port Hope had gained a power play chance when Cody Jodoin was whistled for goalie interference. Shawn Mackie provided the assist. Spicer dished an assist on Mackie's goal that made the score 3-2 Amherstview at 12:49 into the second period. He added another helper on Matthew Hunt's goal that made the score 5-3 Port Hope at 17:29 into the second period.

The Panthers took advantage of Amherstview's penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities. Port Hope could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Port Hope additionally got points from Hunt, who also registered one goal and one assist and Mackie, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Port Hope included Cameron McGill and Dan Lagrois, who scored one goal each. More assists for Port Hope came via Nathan Snoek, who had two and Dylan Baxter, Chandler Gillespie, Braeden Kublick, Kallen McFarland, and Mike Smith, who contributed one each.

The Jets' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Amherstview finished with 30 penalty minutes.

The Jets were led by Cody Smith, who racked up one goal and one assist. Smith scored on the power play 8:42 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Amherstview. Amherstview had taken the advantage when the Panthers' Brandon Baks got sent off for tripping. Brody Taylor picked up the assist. Amherstview also got a goal from Jordan Howe as well. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Adam Alcorn, Jesse Stone, Ryan Hutchinson, and Max Brunner, who each chipped in one.

Port Hope's Alec Brown stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Ryan Kaszuba made 22 saves for the Jets on 28 shots. Amherstview registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
