Picton downs Port Hope in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Picton Pirates' Shaw Boomhower - APM scored 49 seconds into overtime to beat the Port Hope Panthers, 5-4 (OT).

Picton nearly gave up a four-score lead. The Pirates made it 4-0 on a goal by Corey Farrell at 8:07 in the second period. Port Hope got to within 4-3 on a goal by Matthew Hunt at 17:39 in the third period.

The Panthers' power play was ineffective against Picton's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Picton also got points from Phil Smith, who also had one goal and one assist and Mitchell Burke, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Picton received assists from Brian Bunnett, who had two and Liam Hunter, Austin Labelle, and Devin McCann, who contributed one each.

Port Hope's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Panthers are averaging 2.5 goals against for the season.

Port Hope was led by Dylan Baxter, who tallied two goals. Baxter scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:26 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Picton. The Panthers had gotten the advantage when the Pirates' Corey Prince was sent off for kneeing. Tyler Davey picked up the assist. Baxter's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with one second1 seconds left in the third period. Jacob Spicer assisted on the tally. Shawn Mackie also scored for Port Hope. More assists for Port Hope came via Connor Turland, Dan Lagrois, Chandler Gillespie, and Braeden Kublick, who each chipped in one.

Andrew Pearson recorded 26 saves for Picton. The Pirates incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Branson Schell made five saves before being replaced by Alce Brown, who took the loss and made 11 saves. Port Hope incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
