Hunter leads Picton over Campbellford, 6-1

Liam Hunter had one goal and two assists to lead the Picton Pirates to a 6-1 victory over the Campbellford Rebels.

Hunter beat Cole Mahoney with a shot 1:57 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Picton. Corey Prince picked up the assist. Hunter dished an assist on Shaw Boomhower - APM's goal that made the score 3-0 Picton at 6:26 into the first period. He added another helper on Austin Labelle's goal that made the score 6-1 Picton at 8:37 into the third period.

Campbellford was stymied by Picton's netminder Andrew Pearson, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Pearson certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.32 entering the contest.

The Pirates forced Rebels' goalies to work all game long, ripping 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Mahoney made 29 stops and Reilly Dunn made six. Picton's goal total was higher than its season average. The Pirates average 3.6 goals per game. Picton was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages. The defensemen of the Pirates were also effective in the Rebels' zone, and came away with two goals.

Picton also got points from Boomhower - APM, who also registered one goal and one assist and Mitchell Burke, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Picton also had goals scored by Noah Sager and Devin McCann, who each put in one. More assists for Picton came via Phil Smith, who had two and Calum Kennelly and Brian Bunnett, who contributed one each.

Campbellford's offense operated below its season average. The Rebels average 3.1 goals per game. Campbellford had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.

The Rebels were led by Jeremiah Doherty, who scored the team's only goal. Doherty scored on the power play 6:32 into the third period to make the score 5-1 Picton. Campbellford earned a power play opportunity when Boomhower - APM was put in the box for tripping.

Picton incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. The Rebels incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
