Mackie lifts Port Hope over Picton, 5-2

The Port Hope Panthers relied on the scoring touch of Shawn Mackie, who netted two goals, to beat the Picton Pirates, 5-2.

Mackie scored at 14:13 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Port Hope and again while 1:28 into the third to make the score 5-1 Port Hope.

Port Hope excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Panthers kept Picton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brock Tufts made 35 saves on 40 shots.

Port Hope additionally got points from Jacob Spicer, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Port Hope included Hunter Baker and Dylan Baxter, who each put in one. More assists for Port Hope came via Dan Lagrois, who had two and Cameron Lowery, Matthew Hunt, Jordan Leigh, and Tyler Davey, who contributed one each.

The Pirates stifled Port Hope's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Picton could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Pirates put an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Panthers were unable to stop Picton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Pirates eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Picton was helped by Corey Prince, who grabbed one goal. Prince scored 19:38 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Phil Smith picked up the assist. Picton also got a goal from Brian Bunnett as well. In addition, Picton received assists from Liam Hunter, who had one.

Port Hope's Branson Schell stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Panthers incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Pirates incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
