Amherstview holds on for 3-1 win against Picton

The Picton Pirates tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Amherstview Jets held on for a 3-1 victory.

Amherstview took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have Picton storm back on a Nolan Van Vlack goal 18:58 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Jets' Ryan Kaszuba was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 29 saves and let only one puck past him. Kaszuba certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.49 entering the contest.

The Pirates were unable to stop Amherstview from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jets eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Amherstview was helped by Cassidy Bruni, who racked up one goal. Bruni scored 14:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Amherstview. Brody Taylor picked up the assist. Amherstview additionally got points from Zach Masterson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Amherstview also got a goal from Josh Kurish as well. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstview were Brett Yake and Ryan Hutchinson, who each chipped in one.

Picton was held below its usual level of production. The Pirates average 4.0 goals per game.

More assists for Picton came via Phil Smith and Chris Jones, who contributed one each.

The Jets incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Andrew Pearson recorded 30 saves for Picton. The Pirates incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
