Amherstview takes care of Deseronto early, wins 10-3

A four-goal first period deficit cost the Deseronto Storm, which could not recover and fell to the Amherstview Jets, 10-3.

Brett Yake had two goals and one assist to lead Amherstview. Yake scored the first of his two goals at 15:17 into the first period to make the score 4-1 Amherstview. Adam Alcorn assisted on the tally. Yake's next tally made the score 9-3 Amherstview with 6:47 left in the third period. Ryan Hutchinson provided the assist.

Deseronto's power play was ineffective against the Jets' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Amherstview forced Storm's goalies to work in net, launching 43 shots and forcing 33 saves. Matt Loveys made 26 stops and Alex Crouter made seven. The Jets outdid their season average for goals scored. Amherstview averages 4.0 goals per game. The Jets' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Amherstview finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Amherstview additionally got points from Alcorn, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Mike McKitrick, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Cassidy Bruni, who also had two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Amherstview included Joey Mayer and Cody Smith, who scored two goals each. More assists for Amherstview came via Max Brunner, who had two, Cody Jodoin, who had three, and Cam Blakeley, Brody Taylor, and Josh Kurish, who contributed one each.

The Storm were helped by Kim Gauthier, who racked up one goal. Gauthier scored 5:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Deseronto. Mitch Goodfellow assisted on the tally. Deseronto also got points from Johnny Maracle, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brodie Maracle also scored for Deseronto. Other players who recorded assists for Deseronto were Mitchell Thompson and Brett Maracle, who each chipped in one.

The Jets' Hayden Ford APM stopped 17 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Amherstview registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Deseronto incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Storm ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Maracle was ejected from the game.
