Alvinston vanquishes Wheatley in shootout, 2-1 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Alvinston Flyers defeated the Wheatley Sharks in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured four attempts between both teams. Alvinston's other shootout goal was scored by Cole Harris.

Wheatley was stymied by the Flyers' netminder Brett Avery, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Avery certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.52 entering the contest.

Alvinston put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Sharks to score on any of their five power plays. The Flyers forced Wheatley goalie Conner MacKinnon to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Alvinston was led by Kole Keating, who tallied one goal. Keating scored on the power play 16:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. The Flyers had gotten the advantage when the Sharks' Riley Enns was sent off for cross checking. Joe Archer provided the assist. More assists for Alvinston came via Karsten Berg, who had one.

Wheatley did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Sharks put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game.

In addition, Wheatley received assists from Austin Thompson and Lucas Raffoul, who contributed one each.

Alvinston incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wheatley's MacKinnon stopped 33 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Sharks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
