Alvinston downs Amherstburg in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Alvinston Flyers pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Amherstburg Admirals on a clutch goal by Josh Moore.

Although Alvinston was up by as many as three goals in the second period, Amherstburg kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Admirals got to within 4-3 on a goal by Chad Copeland at 7:56 in the third period.

The Flyers got the win on the strength of a great game by Kirklin Dorman, who had one goal and two assists. Dorman scored 4:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. Jordan Hayes picked up the assist.

Alvinston's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Amherstburg power plays. The Flyers kept Amherstburg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gianfranco Donato made 27 saves on 32 shots.

Alvinston also got points from Joe Archer, who also registered one goal and one assist and Zach VanEyk, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Alvinston also got a goal from Kole Keating as well. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Jeremy VanDeven, who had one and Eric Marsh, who had two.

The Admirals stifled Alvinston's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flyers were unable to stop Amherstburg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Admirals eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Amherstburg included Cole Martyniuk, Cody Leeming, and Mark Gangnon, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Mark Sobocan, Conor Rennie, Marshal Laing, Dan Matoski, James Brooks, Ryan Alexander, Brett Beattie, and Jordan Luciw, who contributed one each.

Alvinston's Brett Avery stopped 34 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Flyers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Amherstburg incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
