Mooretown rides Johnson to victory over Essex, 3-1

Brandon Johnson stood on his head and made 29 saves to lead the Mooretown Flags to a 3-1 victory over the Essex 73s.

Mooretown was sparked by Sam McCormack, who registered one goal. McCormack scored on the power play 4:29 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Mooretown. The Flags had gained a power play chance when Matthew Rosati was whistled for cross checking. Frankie White provided the assist.

Essex's defense shut down Mooretown's forwards for much of the game, and the Flags got off only 14 shots during the contest.

Mooretown also got points from Dan Lumley, who also finished with one goal and one assist and White, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Joe DeSena, Colton Osborne, and Sam Jasmin, who each chipped in one.

The 73s were held below their usual level of production. Essex averages 4.9 goals per game.

The 73s were led by Daniel McIntyre, who scored the team's only goal. McIntyre scored 29 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Essex. Brad Carroll picked up the assist.

Mooretown incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Essex's Noah Hedrick stopped 11 shots out of the 13 that he faced. The 73s incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
