Amherstburg survives Mooretown comeback, wins 3-1Mooretown Rink 1 Sat, Jan 17, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Amherstburg Admirals survived a determined comeback attempt by the Mooretown Flags on the way to a 3-1 win. Amherstburg made the score 3-0 on a goal by Conor Rennie at 16:32 in the second period, and Mooretown got as close as 3-1 when Matt Brandon scored 18:10 into the third period. The Flags were stymied by the Admirals' netminder Arren Romeril, who stopped 42 shots during the victory. The solid play of Romeril will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.33. Amherstburg's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Admirals finished with 48 penalty minutes. Amherstburg was helped by Ryan Holzel, who grabbed one goal. Holzel scored 11:15 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Amherstburg. Brett Beattie picked up the assist. Amherstburg also got a goal from James Brooks as well. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Mark Sobocan and Mark Gangnon, who contributed two each. Mooretown excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Flags were held below their usual level of production. Mooretown averages 3.5 goals per game. The Flags' offense rang up 43 shots on the Admirals' net. More assists for Mooretown came via Daytona Harrison and Caden Fleming, who each chipped in one. Steven Taylor rejected 25 shots on goal for Mooretown. The Flags incurred 46 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
