Alvinston earns hard-fought 1-0 win over BlenheimBlenheim Memorial Arena Sun, Jan 11, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alvinston Flyers and the Blenheim Blades played 60 tight minutes of hockey, but in the end it was Alvinston that came away with a 1-0 victory. Karsten Berg and Kole Keating picked up the assist on the deciding goal.The Flyers were sparked by Zach VanEyk, who registered one goal. VanEyk scored on the power play 8:46 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. Alvinston had taken the advantage when Blenheim's Kirk McKillop got sent off for tripping. Berg picked up the assist. The Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Blenheim power plays. Alvinston was held below its usual level of production. The Flyers put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. The Blades did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Blenheim averages 2.9 goals per game. Brett Avery made 23 saves for Alvinston on 23 shots. The Flyers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Klinton Kenney rejected 16 shots on goal for the Blades.
