Huge game by Krieger boosts Dresden over Alvinston, 7-3

The Dresden Kings' Ross Krieger had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-3 win over the Alvinston Flyers.

Krieger found the back of the net 13:49 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Dresden and again while on the power play 18:56 into the second to make the score 4-1 Dresden.

Dresden's penalty kill excelled, as the Kings gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays.

Dresden forced Alvinston's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 45 shots and forcing 38 saves. Brett Avery made 34 stops and Cam MacAlpine made four. The Kings stifled the Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Dresden surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Kings average 3.4 goals per contest. Dresden got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Dresden additionally got points from John Montgomery, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Derek Daly, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Dresden included Dede Cato, Graham Smyth, and Derrick VanEvery, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were Steven Funk, who had two, Will Tetzlaff, who had three, and Kevin Ritzer, Justin Melo, and Macks Holmes, who contributed one each.

Alvinston forced Kings' goalies to work between the pipes, totaling 34 shots and forcing 31 saves. Daniel Tonietto made 31 stops and Scott Tricker made zero. The Flyers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

Alvinston was led by Josh Moore, who grabbed one goal. Moore scored 10:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Andrew Morgan provided the assist. Alvinston also had goals scored by Zach VanEyk and Kole Keating, who scored one goal each. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Clint Rose, Hunter Bryce, and Joe Archer, who each chipped in one.

The Kings incurred 72 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Dresden, Jim McKinlay was ejected from the game. The Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Gough was ejected from the game.
