Amherstburg completes comeback, beats Wallaceburg, 7-4

The Amherstburg Admirals climbed out of a four-goal hole to beat the Wallaceburg Lakers, 7-4.

Amherstburg never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Admirals trailed 4-0 after a goal by Wallaceburg's Brock Daugherty at 11:20 in the first period. Amherstburg tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jordan Luciw at 13:46 in the second period. The Admirals got the game winner at 3:32 in the third period on a goal by Luciw.

Luke Gangnon had one goal and two assists to lead Amherstburg.

The Admirals outdid their season average for goals scored. Amherstburg averages 4.6 goals per game. The Admirals were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 36 penalty minutes.

Amherstburg additionally got points from James Brooks, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Ryan Alexander, who also had two goals and one assist, Mark Gangnon, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Luciw, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Marshal Laing, who had two and Mark Sobocan and Dean Patterson, who each chipped in one.

The Lakers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Amherstburg power plays. Wallaceburg's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Lakers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wallaceburg was helped by Jacob Theoret, who finished with one goal. Theoret scored on the power play 9:15 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wallaceburg. The Lakers had taken the advantage when Amherstburg's Gangnon got sent off for tripping. Ryan Gruszka provided the assist. Wallaceburg also had goals scored by Lucais Meyskens and Cory Lucier, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Bronson Bea, Josh Berkvens, Matt Clark, Mike Zottl, Alex Ritchie, and Brendan Ritchie, who contributed one each.

Gianfranco Donato made eight saves before being replaced by Arren Romeril, who took the win and made 13 saves. The Admirals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cole Martyniuk was ejected from the game. Wallaceburg's Scotty Gray stopped 18 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Lakers registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
