Alvinston uses shootout to best Blenheim, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Alvinston Flyers defeated the Blenheim Blades in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Blenheim's shootout goal was scored by Derek Muzzatti. Alvinston's other shootout goal was scored by Cole Harris.

The Flyers overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Alvinston trailed 2-1 after a goal by the Blades' Ben Pataki at 16:27 in the second period. The Flyers tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Joe Archer at 10:32 in the third period.

Alvinston managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Flyers ended up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Alvinston kept Blenheim's goalie busy throughout the game, and Klinton Kenney made 34 saves on 37 shots.

The Flyers were helped by Chad Rainsberry, who grabbed one goal. Rainsberry scored 15:08 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Josh Moore picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Alvinston were Hunter Bryce, Karsten Berg, and Kole Keating, who each chipped in one.

The Blades excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Blenheim forced Alvinston goalie Cam MacAlpine to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Blades were helped by Kirk McKillop, who had one goal. McKillop scored 13:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Blenheim. Kellen Kaniecki provided the assist. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Lucas Hickey and Hunter Burk, who contributed one each.

Cam MacAlpine made 32 saves for the Flyers on 34 shots. Blenheim incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
