Lumley leads Mooretown over Amherstburg, 7-3

Behind a great game by Dan Lumley, who had two goals and three assists, the Mooretown Flags defeated the Amherstburg Admirals, 7-3.

Lumley scored on the power play at 5:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 6:06 into the second to make the score 3-2 Mooretown.

Mooretown pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes.

The Flags forced Amherstburg's netminders to work between the pipes, ripping 32 shots and forcing 25 saves. Gianfranco Donato made 21 stops and Arren Romeril made four. Mooretown put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Admirals to score on any of their nine power plays. The Flags bested their season scoring average. Mooretown has scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign.

Mooretown also got points from Frankie White, who also registered one goal and two assists. Mooretown also had goals scored by Ben Morrison, Caden Fleming, Joe DeSena, and Sam Jasmin, who each put in one. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Justin Vanbuskirk, who had two and Daytona Harrison, Austin Hewton, Ethan Dupont, Brett Thompson, and Brandon Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Penalties took their toll on Amherstburg, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. The Admirals were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 27 penalty minutes.

Amherstburg was led by Luke Gangnon, who finished with two goals. Gangnon scored the first of his two goals at 13:59 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Ryan Alexander provided the assist. Gangnon's next tally made the score 4-3 Mooretown with 7:26 left in the second period. Dan Matoski assisted on the tally. Mark Gangnon also scored for Amherstburg. More assists for Amherstburg came via Cody Leeming, Jordan Luciw, and Chad Copeland, who contributed one each.

Johnson recorded 21 saves for the Flags. For the Admirals, Blake Rutckyj was ejected from the game.
